Tolerance: Oh, the patience of a family dog. It hadn’t been the plan to get a dog at the time that he came into our life but it just happened. We weren’t even married a year; we were living in a flat and had just bought a house which was the ultimate definition of a fixer upper. More on the house at another time as there has been plenty of DIY fun in our past but for the moment all you need to know is that my mind was as far away from getting a dog as it could possibly be. But this was the position I was in as I drove about 20 miles to visit a new litter of puppies that my wife’s friend had pulling her house asunder. My wife had sat down on the sofa beside me the night before and smiled at me in a way that made me uncomfortable.
